Drogba to leave Montreal

Didier Drogba has revealed he will not return with MLS franchise Montreal Impact next season, reports ESPN.

The Impact secured a 3-2 lead over Toronto in the first leg of the Eastern Conference Finals on Wednesday, with Drogba coming on in the 71st minute when his side were already 3-1 ahead.

Drogba’s existing deal is due to expire in December and the former Chelsea striker revealed after the game that this season would be his last for the club.

The 38-year-old joined the Impact in July 2015 and was an instant hit for Mauro Biello’s side, although this season has been more turbulent for the former Ivory Coast international.

Constant leg and back problems have stifled his involvement this season, while he also refused to play for the team after being named on the bench back in October.

Of the 62 players to have scored at least 10 goals in the last two MLS seasons, only Ola Kamara (1 every 116.2 mins) and Robbie Keane (122.7 mins) averaged a goal more frequently than Drogba (129.5 mins).
