Juventus announce new deal for veteran defender

Juventus have announced Stephan Lichtsteiner has signed a 12-month contract extension keeping him at the club until June 2018.

Lichtsteiner’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the current campaign and appeared on his way out of the club after being dropped from their Champions League squad at the start of the season.

Dani Alves’ summer arrival from Barcelona cast further doubt over his future at the Serie A giants but he has returned to favour since Alves suffered a broken leg at the end of November.

The 33-year-old has been with Juventus since joining from Lazio in 2011 and will continue with the reigning Serie A giants until the end of next season at the very earliest.

In the last seven Serie A campaigns only four players have completed more crosses (excluding corners) than Lichtsteiner (156).
