Arsenal set to move for Wolfsburg outcast

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to green light a bid for Wolfsburg man Julian Draxler, reports the Sunday Express.

The Germany international was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates over the summer, only for the Bundesliga side to block any deal.

Draxler was keen to depart for pastures new and after expressing his initial disappointment at not being able to leave, went on to make 10 league starts for the club.

However, the 23-year-old hasn’t started a Bundesliga match since the end of November and after being left out of Wolfsburg’s match day squad in Saturday’s 5-0 trouncing at the hands of Bayern, appears to have played his last game for the team.

They would likely face competition for the player’s signature from across Europe, but Arsenal are hoping to convince the German playmaker to move to the Emirates, in what would be a huge statement of intent from the Premier League side.

The Gunners are prepared to make an opening move of £30m for Draxler, though Wolfsburg would likely demand much more, even if they are keen to sell next month.

The youngster has flattered to deceive for the struggling Bundesliga side this term, with Draxler failing to contribute a goal or an assist in Germany’s top tier this term.
