Former England manager rules himself out the running for Italy job

Fabio Capello has ruled himself out the running to replace Antonio Conte as the Italy head coach after the Euros in the summer.

With Conte set to become Chelsea manager when his contract expires with Italy after the Euros, Capello had emerged as an early front-runner to replace the 46-year-old.

The former England manager has been out of work since being sacked as the Russia national head coach in July last year, but has shot down talk of him replacing Conte as he eyes a return to club management.

“I don’t want to set foot in the Nazionale,” Capello told RSI, via Football Italia.

“I’m sorry, I am proud that my name is mentioned, but I do not want to be in charge of a national team again.

“I already had experiences with England and Russia. If there was a side I could train daily, then that would be OK.”

Capello finished his three-year reign as Russia manager with a disappointing win ratio of 51.5% from his 33 games in charge (17 wins).
