West Brom tied down versatile defender to new deal

Craig Dawson has extended his deal at West Bromwich Albion, the club has confirmed via their official website.

The new contract will run until 2020 for a player that has become a mainstay in the starting XI under Tony Pulis, capable of playing at both centre and right back.

Since the start of the 2015/16 season, Dawson has missed just one Premier League game, with that owing to a suspension in the previous campaign.

The 27-year-old said of his new deal: "I've always felt very settled here and I'm delighted to have reached this agreement.

"It has been quite a journey so far but I still feel there is a lot more of the journey to come.

"I've watched the Club come through a challenging spell and like to feel I have played my part in helping us improve, step by step.

"I try to be consistent and play my part for the team.

"But it never gets any easier at this level and as a footballer I know I've got to keep improving. That's my target every day and every game."

West Brom chairman John Williams commented: "Craig has been incredibly consistent for us and thoroughly deserves his new contract.

"It is also good the club has been able to protect a player who is such an important asset to us.”

After two games of the current Premier League season, Dawson has made more interceptions (9) than any other player.
