Man Utd are £10m short of Varane's valuation

Manchester United are currently £10m short of Real Madrid's £50m valuation of Raphael Varane, claims The Daily Mirror.

Varane has agreed personal terms with United over a summer move after entering the final 12 months of his current deal with Madrid.

The Spanish side are looking to offload Varane now rather than lose him for nothing next summer after failing to agree terms over a new deal.

United and are currently in talks about a fee for Varane but their initial £40m offer is currently short of what Madrid want.

Varane, who won't go to war with Madrid to force a move through, is back in Spain to start pre-season with Carlo Ancelotti's side.

United will hope to find a compromise rather than being forced to match Madrid's valuation with more talks planned to thrash out a deal.

Varane has spent the last decade at Madrid but is now keen to experience life in the Premier League and with United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Varane is the ideal partner for Harry Maguire as he is physically imposing, good on the ball and very athletic.

In fact, of the 191 players to contest 50 or more aerial duels in La Liga last season, Varane had the best success rate (76%).
