Manchester United will be without Eric Bailly for up to two months after scan results showed lateral knee ligament damage, reports The Daily Mail.
Bailly, 23, limped off during the second half of United’s 4-0 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend before manager Jose Mourinho confirmed the £30m summer signing was looking at a long spell out injured.
The Ivory Coast international was the first signing of Mourinho’s era at United and had made an impressive start to life at the back prior to this blow, which could mean he misses up to 12 matches through injury.
Perhaps worse for Mourinho is that Bailly is still expected to go to the African Cup of Nations in January, which would leave the United boss without his star defender for most of the busiest period in the calendar.
Since the start of the season only two players have won possession in the defensive third more times than Bailly (41).
