Gareth Bale would be willing to join Manchester United this summer if Real Madrid decides to sell, reports The Independent.
United’s long-standing interest in Bale dates back to when he left Tottenham to join Real Madrid in 2013 for a then-world record £85m fee.
Bale has won two Champions League titles in three seasons at the club and could end up lifting a third in his home city of Cardiff at the start of next month, although he currently faces a race to be fit in time for the final against Juventus.
The 27-year-old has endured a nightmare season plagued with injuries and was absent for both legs of Madrid’s Champions League semi-final triumph over Atletico Madrid this month due to another calf problem.
The Wales international only signed a new long-term deal back in October but things have changed since then and Madrid have arguably enjoyed their best performances when Isco has started in his place.
United’s board would be keen to secure a deal for a player of Bale’s class but Jose Mourinho remains unconvinced, particularly as Atletico forward Antoine Griezmann and Torino striker Andrea Belotti remain his first choice transfer targets this summer.
Bale is on course to finish the league season without reaching double figures for goals (7 goals) for the first time at Madrid and the first time since his penultimate campaign with Tottenham in 2011/12 (9).
