Fulham starlet Sessegnon hits the gym to improve Premier League form
Fulham wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon has turned to the gym in order to improve his physicality following an underwhelming start to the season.
Sessegnon was a revelation for Fulham in the Championship and was tipped with big money moves to Manchester United and Tottenham over the summer.
The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the best English prospects around but has so far struggled to adapt to the rigours of Premier League football, with Fulham languishing one place above the bottom three.
Sessegnon has featured in every Premier League game for Fulham this season but has only returned one assist and a poor WhoScored rating of 6.36.
The England Under-21 international is determined to rediscover his best form and is even spending more time in the gym in order to bulk up.
“It’s been a bit harder than I thought it would be actually in some parts in terms of the quality of opposition,” he told The Daily Mail.
“There are world class players week in, week out but it’s a new challenge that I’m learning all the time. I’ve got in the gym a few times this season to get bigger and stronger to face better and bigger players.
“Physically in terms of endurance I think I could deal with it. But there is physicality where I had to become a bit bigger to face bigger players.
“I feel bigger, I feel faster and I feel stronger and I think you can see that in some of the games where my speed has got me out of a bit of trouble.”
Fulham invested heavily over the summer and Sessegnon has struggled to nail down a position for the Cottagers this season.
Sessegnon broke onto the scene as a left-back but spent most of last season playing in an advanced position.
However, this season Sessegnon has already played in four different positions and has not garnered a WhoScored rating above 7.00 in any league match.
