Florentino Perez met with Paris Saint-Germain’s owners in Doha over the weekend, fuelling speculation regarding the futures of a number of players including Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The signing of Ronaldo has been a long-term ambition of the PSG owners and, with uncertainties over the 30-year-old’s future at Real Madrid, it could well have been a talking point between the two parties.
The former Manchester United forward may not have been the only name mentioned in talks. Interestingly, Ibrahimovic and his agent Mino Raiola were also pictured in Doha just days prior having sought discussions with the PSG owners regarding his own future.
At this point, it is unclear whether Ibrahimovic met with Perez afterwards, as it is similarly unknown whether sporting matters were the topic of discussion between the Real Madrid president and the Qatari royal family.
Both players have been in the top bracket of world football for the last six years. Only Lionel Messi has scored more goals (232) in La Liga than Ronaldo (225), whereas no player has netted more than Ibrahimovic since he joined the Parisian outfit in 2012 (75).
Additionally, no players have scored more penalties in the league over the last three seasons across the top 5 European leagues than Ronaldo (22) and Ibrahimovic (19). No player had more shots than Ronaldo in La Liga last season (225) – with 91 of those coming outside of the box, another league high.
