Atletico Madrid have announced they have reached an agreement to sign Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan.
Gaitan is currently on duty with Argentina at the Copa America and will travel to Madrid after the tournament to finalise terms and undergo a medical examination.
The 28-year-old has spent the last six years with Benfica after making the switch from Boca Juniors in 2010 but has been linked to Manchester United in almost all of those years.
However, the Argentina international is now on the verge of finally making the long awaited switch to one of Europe’s top leagues. Only Cristiano Ronaldo (7) was awarded more WhoScored.com Man of the Match awards than Gaitan (5) in the Champions League last season.
