Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has confirmed Atletico Madrid were interested in signing him at the start of the season but he wished to respect his contract with the French giants.
Cavani, 29, has been in formidable form for the Parisien outfit this season since being moved centrally in the wake of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure to Manchester United over the summer.
The Uruguay international will need to be at his best for PSG to have any chance of knocking Barcelona out of the Champions League starting with the first leg of their last 16 encounter on Tuesday night but he could have been playing against Luis Enrique’s side regularly had Atletico’s interest been successful.
“It is true that there was an interest from Atletico, but I was always one of those who believed that a professional must respect their team and their contract,” Cavani told Marca, via Get French Football. “That is what I did and that is what I have done up until this very moment.”
PSG will be delighted Cavani was not swayed by the interest shown by Diego Simeone with the Uruguay international in his best goalscoring form since joining the club from Napoli in 2013.
In fact, Cavani has scored at least five more goals than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season (25).

Ya I think he made the right decision, even though it would have been more & more interesting to see him playing against Messi and Ronaldo.
