Manchester United close in on new deal for Real Madrid target
Manchester United are confident David de Gea will sign a new five-year deal with the club, claims The Independent.
De Gea existing contract is due to expire at the end of next season but United have an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.
The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent years and those rumours have resurfaced in recent days.
Madrid announced the appointment of Julen Lopetegui earlier this week and it has been suggested the former Spain head coach wants to reunite with De Gea.
De Gea, however, is extremly happy in England, unlike a few years ago, and has no plans to leave Old Trafford anytime soon, where he has developed into the best goalkeeper in the world.
News that De Gea is on the verge of pledging his long-term future to United would also tie in with the fact Madrid are reportedly closing in on Liverpool target Alisson.
The Brazil international is expected to leave Roma this summer and Madrid are even prepared to pay a world record fee for a goalkeeper in order to secure his services.
In the last three Premier League campaigns, De Gea has kept at least four more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper (47).
The Spaniard has made 106 league appearances during that time and only committed two errors that have directly led to an opposition goal.
