Arsenal midfielder set for bumper payday

Arsenal are set to reward Aaron Ramsey with a new long-term contract, reports The Daily Mail.

Arsene Wenger is keen to avoid the club suffering another situation like this summer where they have a number of key players entering the final 12 months of their current deals.

Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will all be allowed to leave the club for nothing at the end of next season if their futures are not resolved this summer and Wenger does not want this to happen again.

Ramsey’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2019 and Arsenal want to tie down his long-term future before the start of next season. The Gunners have even appointed Huss Fahmy from Team Sky in order to take care of contract matters.

The Wales international can also expect to get an increase of his £100,000-a-week contract as Arsenal seek to protect the futures of their best players.

Ramsey endured a difficult time last campaign but really emerged as an important player for Wenger in the final few weeks of the season and formed a solid partnership with Granit Xhaka in central midfield when they swapped to a 3-4-2-1 formation.

In fact, the 26-year-old scored on the final day of the Premier League season to ensure he didn’t go the whole league campaign without finding the back of the net and followed that up with the winner in their FA Cup final against Chelsea.
