Jesus Vallejo has conceded he is unsure whether he will play for Real Madrid next season despite the impending departure of veteran defender Pepe.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt where he was hugely impressive and has returned to the European champions for pre-season this summer.
Zinedine Zidane will only have three senior centre-backs in his squad when Pepe’s contract expires at the end of the month but Vallejo is still unsure whether the Madrid manager plans to blood him into his first-team plans next season.
“The truth is I do not know anything about my future yet,” he told AS, via Football Espana. “I prefer to focus on the day to day, and keep improving - they told me that when they took the decision, they would talk with me.
“It is not up to me to keep insisting. Now I am focused just on the national team, because to play at the [U21] European Championships is a unique opportunity.
"If I signed for Madrid, it is to play there someday, but I am not in a rush or anxious, the important thing is to play well and wait for the chance.
“If I can return this summer then great. It is not something which depends on me.”
After impressing at Frankfurt, Madrid may not be short of suitors if he carries his fine form into the U21 European Championships with Spain this summer.
Only Omar Mascarell (52.6) averaged more passes per game in the Bundesliga for Frankfurt last season than Vallejo (50.1).
