Zlatan Ibrahimovic set for talks about Manchester United stay
Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s time at Manchester United may not be over after all with the injured star set for talks with the club about staying beyond the end of the current campaign.
The 35-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a double cruciate ligament injury midway through March and isn’t expected to fully recover until the end of the year.
Jose Mourinho’s side had been trying to extend Ibrahimovic’s stay at the club prior to his injury but it was thought the former Sweden international would move to MLS to finish his career with a bumper payday after picking up his career-threatening injury.
However, the striker’s agent, Mino Raiola, has ruled out a move to MLS and insists Ibrahimovic could continue playing in Europe for another two years, with talks about staying at United planned in the near future.
“Will Ibrahimovic stay at Man United? I don’t know, we will speak soon,” The Daily Mail quote Raiola as saying. “Many clubs have asked for Zlatan. He will play at least one more year maybe even two years.
“I’ll talk with the club and we’ll see what to do about the future. It’s still soon. These offers have come from a lot of different leagues but he’ll stay in Europe.”
Ibrahimovic has spent the last 10 days recovering at United’s AON training complex and was present with the squad to lift the Europa League title on Wednesday. The veteran striker has been a revelation for United since joining on a free transfer last summer and with Wayne Rooney set to depart this summer, Jose Mourinho may want to keep Ibrahimovic around simply for his experience.
Despite only playing 28 games for United, Ibrahimovic has still scored more goals (17) in the Premier League than any other United player since the start of last season.
