Memphis omitted from Netherlands squad

Manchester United winger Memphis has been left out of the Netherlands squad for their upcoming friendlies by head coach Danny Blind.

Memphis, 21, has significantly dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford after suffering a severe blip in form since joining from PSV over the summer.

The highly rated youngster was missing from the United squad that drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace at the weekend and he has now been left out of the Netherlands’ squad that will face Wales and Germany in friendlies in the next fortnight.

“I think Depay is a player for the future. But there are other issues to look at. Perhaps Louis van Gaal has also said something,” Blind is quoted as saying by Football365.

“In football you must function in a team. He doesn’t always do that. I have also told him when I called him to say he’s not in there. That’s something he has to learn.”

The former PSV winger has only scored one league goal for United from his eight appearances. In fact, only one other player has been dispossessed more times than Memphis (32), despite having missed three matches.
