Arsenal in talks to sign £23m-rated Eredivisie midfielder

Arsenal have opened talks to sign Feyenoord creator Orkun Kokcu and want a deal done before Euro 2020, claims The Daily Mail.

Mikel Arteta wants to get the majority of his summer dealings done early to give Arsenal the best chance of a successful season next year.

Arsenal technical director, Edu, has identified the £23m-rated midfielder as a top transfer target for the summer and is hoping to take advantage of his uncertain future at the club.

Kokcu's current deal is not due to expire until the summer of 2023 but Feyenoord are desperate to extend his stay at the club.

However, the Eredivisie outfit are aware they cannot offer the same sort of money as other sides in Europe and Arsenal are positioning themselves at the front of the queue for his signature.

Kokcu is yet to be capped by Turkey at senior level but made his debut for the U21s last year, having previously represented the Netherlands underage groups up until U19-level.

The 19-year-old was born in the Netherlands but will almost certainly make Turkey's squad for Euro 2020 and could play a promiment role at this summer's major tournament.

A good summer would see Kocku's reputation and valuation soar and therefore Arsenal want to avoid missing out on the teenager.

Kokcu has made 21 league appearances in Feyenoord's breakthrough campaign and has played a direct hand in six goals in that time (two goals, four assists).

Three of his four assists have come to set-piece situations and it was from a Kokcu corner that saw Feyenoord take the lead against PSV in their 1-1 draw last weekend.
