Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident Jack Wilshere will sign a new contract.
Wilshere’s current Arsenal deal is due to expire at the end of the season and the England international has already rejected one offer from the club.
Arsenal wanted Wilshere to take a pay-cut below £100,000-a-week but the Gunners have now returned with an improved offer.
Wenger will stand down as Arsenal manager at the end of the season but the Frenchman is confident Wilshere will renew with the club.
“The latest conversation I had with Jack, it looks positive for the club,” Sky Sports quote Wenger as saying on Tuesday.
“I am not involved any more in negotiations but of course I’m still in touch with Jack.
“If he wants my advice, I will give it to him. I am convinced, like I was always, that his future is here. It was always my wish and I think it will happen, yes.”
Wilshere has proved he can still stay fit for prolonged periods this season, starting 24 matches across league and European competition.
Interestingly, Arsenal have a better win ratio in the Premier League this season when Wilshere has not started (54.2%) compared to when he has featured from the off (41.7%).
