Souare ruled out for six months

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has revealed Pape Souare has been ruled out for six months after surgery on the injuries sustained in a car crash on Sunday.

Souare, 26, was left with a fractured thigh and jaw in the aftermath of a serious car crash at the weekend that required the defender to be airlifted to hospital.

The Palace defender is due to be released from hospital this weekend after undergoing surgery but he isn’t expected back until the end of the season.

“We think in about four, five or six months he should be up and running again training,” the London Evening Standard quote Pardew as saying.

“It was a broken thigh. They have pinned that with a big rod through that bone. That should repair as normal, and stronger than anyone else’s once it is finished.

“But there is nothing in the engineering of his knee or his ankle that is a problem. We are still not quite sure of the muscular injuries that he suffered because of the trauma he has been under. We think he looks okay. We have reminded him he is very lucky that his injuries are not as bad as they could have been.”

Only Yohan Cabaye (124) has completed more interceptions for Palace in the Premier League since the start of last season than Souare (94).
