Newcastle looking at securing Liverpool outcast's services
Newcastle are ready to rescue Xherdan Shaqiri from his Liverpool nightmare as they gear up to make a move for the out of favour attacker, reports The Daily Mail.
The 28-year-old joined the Reds from Stoke City in 2018, but has never really been considered a first team regular under Jurgen Klopp.
Indeed, stiff competition for starting spots and a string of injury issues has restricted Shaqiri to just 13 league starts over the last two seasons, with the player best remembered for his man of the match performance against rivals Manchester United that eventually cost Jose Mourinho his job in December 2018.
Newcastle are looking to make a number of high profile signings as they aim to make a lasting impact on the back of the Saudi-led takeover.
However, that deal is on the rocks at the moment due to a possible law breach surrounding piracy issues.
Nevertheless, the Magpies are expected to press ahead with their interest in a number of big name stars with Shaqiri emerging as a possible target for Steve Bruce's side.
Shaqiri last started a Premier League game in December, where he played 70 minutes in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Watford.
