Valencia sign West Ham target Gomez

Valencia have announced a deal for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez on a five-year deal running until the summer of 2024.

Gomez has been locked in the middle of a transfer tug-of-war between Valencia and West Ham all summer but has now joined the Spanish side.

West Ham were willing to match Gomez's £45m release clause but could not agree a payment structure with Celta, paving the way for Valencia to make their move.

Valencia have agreed a player-plus-cash deal with their Spanish rivals for €14.5m (£13m) and the permanent transfer Santi Mina.

In addition to Mina's transfer, Celta will also recieve centre-back Jorge Saenz on a two-year loan deal.

Los Che have been considered favourites to sign Gomez all the way through talks due to the fact they can offer the Uruguay international Champions League football next term.

Gomez, who has a release clause of €140m (£125.7m) is the seventh new signing Valencia have made this summer and second most expensive, as they gear up for Europe's elite competition.
