Manchester City are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan worth £23m at the end of the season, reports The Daily Mail.
Gundogan, 25, has been regularly linked with a move away from Dortmund in recent years and City have seemingly won the race ahead of Barcelona and Juventus to sign the central midfielder.
The Germany international would mark Pep Guardiola’s first signing as City manager, even though he isn’t set to replace Manuel Pellegrini until the end of the season.
City are currently in the process of drawing up a five-year contract for the Dortmund midfielder to pen as they start the rebuilding of their squad that has fallen well short of expectations in the league this season.
Despite having missed almost an entire months worth of action this year, no player has won possession in the midfield third more times in the Bundesliga this season than Gundogan (108).
