Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce is looking to raid former club Sunderland for defender Patrick Van Aanholt, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The Eagles are expected to be one of the busiest teams in the January transfer window as Allardyce looks to steer Palace clear of the relegation zone in the second half of the season.
Allardyce’s side are also interested in signing Jeffrey Schlupp from Leicester but have lodged a £7m bid for Sunderland full-back Van Aanholt, as David Moyes faces a bid to retain many of his important players this month.
Sunderland are expected to reject Palace’s bid for the Netherlands international, while Jermain Defoe is another player Allardyce is interested in bringing to Selhurst Park from the Black Cats this month.
Since the start of last season only Charlie Daniels (14) has played a direct hand in more Premier League goals of defenders than Van Aanholt (11).
