West Ham quoted £35m for La Liga target

West Ham have had a stunning £27m bid for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez rejected as the Spanish side are holding out for £35m, reports the London Evening Standard.

Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini insists he is not finished in the transfer window despite already spending nearly £100m on seven new players this summer.

West Ham have already bolstered their offensive options with Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko, but Pellegrini is now looking to sign an out-and-out striker.

Pellegrini wants to raid Spanish side Celta Vigo for rising star Gomez but have been told they will need to make the 21-year-old the second most expensive player in the club’s history to sign him.

Celta are in no rush to cash in on Gomez, as the young striker still has four years left to run in his existing deal and that gives them power in negotiations for his possible departure.

Gomez was part of the Uruguay squad at the 2018 World Cup but was limited to just 32 minutes of playing time spread over two substitute appearances.

The Celta No.7 flourished in Spain last season, netting 17 goals and providing four assists in 36 appearances for the La Liga side.

Furthermore, only Cristhian Stuani (10) scored more headed goals than Gomez (9) in Europe’s top five leagues.
