Swansea flop secures Spain return

Swansea have announced Roque Mesa has joined Spanish giants Sevilla on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Premier League strugglers shelled out £11m to sign Mesa from Las Palmas in the summer but it has been a disastrous six months for the Spanish midfielder.

Mesa failed to get a look in under Paul Clement and things haven’t improved under new head coach Carlos Carvalhal to the point where they have sent him back to La Liga.

“Swansea City midfielder Roque Mesa has joined La Liga outfit Sevilla on loan for the remainder of the season,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

The 28-year-old was limited to just 758 minutes of Premier League action spread across 11 league appearances, but returns to Spain where he has a good reputation.

In fact, only Steven N’Zonzi (79.8) and Toni Kroos (71.4) averaged more passes per game than Mesa (70.8) in La Liga last season.
