Manchester United tracking Real Madrid midfielder

Manchester United are one of several teams monitoring the future of Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, claims AS.

Jose Mourinho has made signing at least two new central midfielders his main priority in the summer and is now reportedly eyeing a raid on former club Madrid.

Kovacic, who has missed most of the campaign through injury, has only started one league match this season but Madrid have told interested clubs that he is simply not for sale.

The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are also watching how his situation unfolds at the Bernebau for the rest of the campaign.

However, Kovacic has no desire to leave Madrid and hopes to become a key player for the club next season as president Florentino Perez plans sweeping changes.

A big squad overhaul is expected in the summer and even a new manager as Zinedine Zidane’s time at the club appears to be nearing an end.

Of the 139 players that have attempted at least 75 dribbles in La Liga over the last three seasons, Kovacic has the best success rate (77.6%).
