Arsenal have rekindled their long-term interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and want to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker this month, reports The Daily Mirror.
Aubameyang was excluded from Dortmund’s squad for Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Wolfsburg after being disciplined by the club for the third time in less than 12 months.
Dortmund have already said Aubameyang’s behaviour cannot continue and the Gunners are hoping to take advantage of the situation to finally prise him to North London.
Arsene Wenger is in the market for forwards with Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott both expected to leave the club this month and the Gunners are already closing in on Bordeaux starlet Malcom.
Aubameyang has snubbed Arsenal in the past but Wenger’s side are hoping that new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat, who knows Aubameyang from his time at Dortmund, can prove the difference on this occasion.
There is also the fact that Aubameyang has all but given up hope of realising his dream of playing for Barcelona or Real Madrid, which should work in Arsenal’s favour this month.
Nevertheless, Arsenal have no interest in matching Dortmund’s £60m valuation of the 28-year-old and this transfer saga is likely to run right up until deadline day at the end of the month.
Despite Aubameyang’s off field troubles this season, only Robert Lewandowski (15) has scored more Bundesliga goals than Aubameyang (13) this season.
