Stoke defender on verge of signing new deal

Glen Johnson is poised to sign a new one-year contract extension at Stoke to end speculation about his future, reports The Daily Mail.

The former Liverpool defender has been heavily linked with a move away from Stoke in recent weeks with suggestions he could join West Ham in the summer.

Johnson’s existing deal is due to expire at the end of the season but talks had been held in recent days that have led to Stoke tabling a 12-month extension to the former England international.

The fact that West Ham are now also targeting a move for out-of-contract Manchester City duo Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna has perhaps forced Johnson to re-evaluate his options.

Johnson has started 17 of Stoke’s 33 league games this season but is facing the prospect of going throughout a whole league campaign with scoring or assisting over the last eight years.
