Tottenham confirm severity of Alli’s hamstring problem

Tottenham have revealed Dele Alli will be sidelined for six weeks with a hamstring injury sustained in Sunday’s 2-1 win away to Fulham.

Alli watched from the bench as Tottenham completed a dramatic turnaround victory at Craven Cottage after limping off with four minutes of normal time remaining.

The 22-year-old is not projected to return until the middle of March in what is another huge blow to Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top four.

With Harry Kane also sidelined until March and Son Heung-min on international duty, Mauricio Pochettino will be without three of the club’s best players during a defining period in the season.

Alli is projected to miss the Carabao Cup final at the end of February if Tottenham overcome Chelsea in their semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night, as well as other big matches.

“Following scans and clinical assessment, we can confirm that Dele Alli has suffered a hamstring train, sustained during Sunday’s match,” a statement read on Tottenham’s official Twitter account.

“Dele will now undergo a period of rehabilitation with our medical staff, with the expectation of returning to returning in early March.”

The England international could end up missing 10 matches in total for Tottenham, including both legs of their Champions League last 16 clash with Borussia Dortmund and a host of Premier League games.

Alli has struggled to rediscover his best form after playing through the 2018 World Cup with a slight injury, managing just five goals and one assist in 17 league appearances for the north London outfit.

At the same stage last season, the Tottenham ace had played a direct hand in 12 goals (seven goals, five assists) in 23 league appearances.
