Chelsea bid for Ligue 1 striker turned down

Lyon have rejected a £34m bid from Chelsea for striker Moussa Dembele and insist he will not be sold at any price this month, claims Sky Sports.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard wants to bolster his offensive options for the second half of the season now their FIFA-imposed transfer ban has been lifted.

Dembele has previously been linked with a move to Chelsea and Manchester United and Lampard’s side have failed with an opening offer for the former Fulham striker.

Lyon have already released a statement to reiterate Dembele is not for sale this month but Chelsea remain in the hunt for the 23-year-old.

The Ligue 1 outfit would be resigned to lose Dembele midway through the season, particularly as captain Memphis Depay is sidelined for the rest of the season with knee ligament damage.

Lampard expects to move on at least one of Olivier Giroud or Michy Batshuayi this month, which would facilitate the arrival of a new striker.

Dembele has scored 10 goals in 18 league appearances this season after netting 15 times in 33 outings in his maiden league campaign for Lyon.
