Liverpool make progress in Wjnaldum contract talks

Liverpool are making steady progress in their attempts to secure Georginio Wijnaldum's long-term future, reports The Guardian.

Wijnaldum is poised to enter the final 12 months of his current Liverpool contract and there have been doubts whether he would pledge his long-term future to the club.

The Netherlands international has gradually established himself as one of Liverpool's best players and has been an unheralded star of the last two years.

Wijnaldum turns 30 at the end of the year and is aware that his next contract will likely be his last big one before he has to take pay cuts.

However, Liverpool are confident they have made sufficient progress in talks with the midfielder's representatives to extend his stay by at least three more years.

The former Newcastle midfielder has started all but one Premier League match this season and the midfielder has the best pass accuracy into the final thid (50+ attempted passes) the division (88.3%) success rate).
