Tarkowski signs new Burnley deal

Burnley have announced James Tarkowski has put pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half-year deal until 2022.

Tarkowski previous deal was due to expire at the end of next season and Burnley have moved to reward the centre-back to reflect his growing importance to the team.

“I’m happy. It’s been a good season so far and it’s nice to be rewarded by the gaffer and the club in this way,” he told the club’s official website.

“Hopefully I can carry on paying them back and put in some good performances.

“Since Keano left, the club has put the trust in me, so far, to take that position on. I feel like I’ve done quite well so far and hopefully long may that continue.

“I have said it for a long time this a long-term project for me and the club so hopefully we can all continue what’s been a positive season so far.”

The 25-year-old is approaching his second-year anniversary at Burnley but has been forced to be patient before grasping his opportunity.

Tarkowski was promoted into the starting XI on a full-time basis following Michael Keane’s departure over the summer and the former Brentford defender has flourished for Sean Dyche’s side.

In fact, only Manchester City man Nicolas Otamendi (5) has won the WhoScored Man of the Match award more times than Tarkowski (4) of all defenders in the Premier League this season.
