Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris is relaxed about his contract situation and is not in any rush to sign a new deal.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have secured the long-term futures of eight players in the squad already this season and are keen to make Lloris the next player to extend their stay.
Lloris, 29, still has three-and-a-half years left to run on the five-year deal he signed in 2014 and is not looking to too far ahead in the future for now.
“At the moment I just think about the close future, the next game and I repeat that I feel very pleased to be a Spurs player and to be the skipper too,” ESPN quote Lloris as saying after their 0-0 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.
“I feel very involved and I try to do my best for my team and my club. I don’t think at all about my future. I’m under contract too and there’s no rush to think about that.
“I’m just doing my job as I’ve done now for more than 10 years. I always try to help my team, try to be decisive and when it’s the case, of course the feeling is good. The most important thing for me is my team and like all my teammates I’m disappointed because we expected more from this game [against Bournemouth].”
Since joining Tottenham from Lyon in 2012 Lloris has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, as well as in Europe. The France international has been in tremendous form this season and has kept Spurs in matches, most notably against Bayer Leverkusen and Bournemouth in recent times.
In fact, no team in Europe’s top five leagues have conceded fewer goals than Tottenham so far this season (4) and Lloris has been at the heart of that. Since the start of last season only two goalkeepers have kept more clean sheets than Lloris (17).
