Newcastle poised to land Swansea midfielder

Newcastle United are on the verge of making their second signing of the January window after having a £12m bid accepted for Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, according to BBC Sport.

Shelvey, 23, has endured a mixed season at the Liberty City Stadium this season and there have been rumours of unrest in the squad, particularly during Garry Monk’s final months in the job.

The England international is now due in Newcastle to complete his medical ahead of his £12m move and is set to become Steve McClaren’s second signing of the window following the arrival of Henri Saivet from Bordeaux on Monday.

In the last three Premier League campaign’s, only Philippe Coutinho (43) has hit the target with more shots from outside the box than Shelvey (36).

Moreover, since joining Swansea from Liverpool in 2013, their win ratio without Shelvey in the starting XI drops from 35.2% and 24% in the Premier League.
