Leicester sound out former England manager

Leicester have held secret talks with former England manager Roy Hodgson about becoming their new manager, reports The Daily Mail.

The Foxes are looking to find a replacement for Claudio Ranieri after sacking the Italian last week just nine months after he led the club to the Premier League title.

Hodgson has been out of work since England’s embarrassing Euro 2016 campaign that saw them exit the tournament at the round of 16 stage to minnows Iceland.

However, the 69-year-old is still a very respected manager and is keen to return to management, with Leicester own Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha keen on making him Ranieri’s long-term successor.

Assistant manager Craig Shakespeare is expected to take control of the team in the short-term after getting his interim tenure off to a winning start in Monday’s shock 3-1 win over Liverpool.

The reigning Premier League champions have made a disastrous defence of their title but their win over Jurgen Klopp’s side has given them breathing space, albeit that could quickly change.

Hodgson hasn’t managed in the Premier League since leaving his job as West Brom manager to take control of England in May 2012. Hodgson, who turns 70 in August, only managed to win three of his last 11 league games in charge of the Baggies.
