City set to clinch deal for Germany international ahead of Liverpool

Manchester City have beaten Liverpool to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Ter Stegen, 23, has been heavily linked with a move away from the Camp Nou after being forced to settle for action in the cup and Champions League since joining from Gladbach in 2014.

Liverpool had been the frontrunners in their pursuit of the Germany international, who has been backed as Manuel Neuer’s long-term successor in the national team.

However, City have managed to pip their Premier League rivals to his signature with Pep Guardiola reportedly keen to sign a ball-playing goalkeeper that fits his style of football.

The two-time Premier League champions will pay a fee in the region of £20m to sign the Barcelona No.2, which has cast doubt over what future Joe Hart has at the Etihad.

No goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets in the knockout phases of the Champions League since the start of last season than Ter Stegen (4).
