Ross Barkley sidelined for three months to end Tottenham move

Ross Barkley now looks destined to see out the final year of his Everton contract after scan results revealed he has torn his hamstring and will face three months out injured, reports The Daily Mail.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman confirmed earlier in the summer that Barkley would be sold in this transfer window after failing to agree terms to a new contract with the club.

Barkley, who only has 12 months remaining on his existing contract, has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham and Chelsea this summer but both sides will now have to look elsewhere following news of his long-term injury.

It was hoped that Barkley would only need six weeks off to recover from the hamstring injury he picked up in training at the start of the week, but it has now been discovered that he will need surgery.

The 23-year-old is now facing a three-month lay-off, which will all but end any interest in his services from rival Premier League clubs, but now means he is set to leave his boyhood club for nothing next summer.

In the last five Premier League campaigns, no midfielder has been dispossessed more times than Barkley (224).
