Lowest rated Premier League Team of the Season revealed

The likes of Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, Mesut Ozil and Romelu Lukaku have courted most of the attention this season thanks to a string of imperious performances. Without Mahrez and Vardy, Leicester probably would be in the relegation fight many tipped them to be in before the season. However, what about the players performing badly this season? WhoScored.com looks at which players that have started at least seven games this season have garnered the lowest WhoScored ratings.

John Terry was tipped by many to rival Eden Hazard for the PFA Player of the Year award last season, but things have changed dramatically in six months and he now faces an up hill battle to even get into the Chelsea team for the remainder of the season.

The former England captain is the most notable name in the lowest ranked Team of the Season, with a WhoScored rating of 6.38 that ranks as his lowest over the past seven seasons. The 35-year-old was taken off midway through Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester on Monday night, and although the substitution was a tactical one with the Blues chasing the game, the writing does appear on the wall for the Chelsea skipper.

Partnering Terry is Southampton defender Maya Yoshida. The 27-year-old hasn’t been the most dependable of understudies to Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk, which should be a cause for concern for Ronald Koeman going into the winter transfer window. In fact, only a select few have made more errors that have directly to a shot on goal than Yoshida this season (3).

Elsewhere in the team, Norwich City boast three players. Included in them is striker Cameron Jerome, who has been particularly guilty of missing some clear-cut opportunities this season. While the likes of Olivier Giroud (9) and Jamie Vardy (7) have missed more than Jerome (6) so far this season, they have all weighed in with meaningful contributions, which Jerome hasn’t. The former Birmingham City striker has only scored two goals in his 16 appearances this season.
