Liverpool sweating on Coutinho scan results

Liverpool will wait to see scan results on a hamstring injury before making a decision on Philippe Coutinho’s involvement against Southampton, according to The Guardian.

Coutinho, 24, returned to Liverpool on Wednesday following international duty with Brazil in which he played a lead role as they maintained their lead at the top of World Cup qualification in South America.

The 24-year-old, who has recently emerged as a top target for Barcelona, has been in super form this season but has emerged as a huge doubt for their trip to Southampton on Saturday with a hamstring injury.

The Liverpool No.10 underwent a scan at Liverpool’s Spire hospital on Thursday following 170 minutes of match action with Brazil and a decision on whether he will travel with the squad to Southampton will be made on Friday afternoon.

With Adam Lallana also suffering from a groin injury following his exertions during the international break, Jurgen Klopp could be forced into changes as they look to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League.

Coutinho is currently the highest rated player in the Premier League (8.09), having scored five and registered as many assists in 11 appearances this season.
