Chelsea midfielder out for the season with knee injury

Billy Gilmour is set to miss Chelsea's crucial run-in after suffering a knee injury in their 3-2 win away to Crystal Palace on Tuesday night, claims The Sun.

The highly rated 19-year-old started Chelsea's victory against Palace but was replaced with 10 minutes left to play and looked uncomfortable as he left the pitch.

Gilmour emerged as one for the future for Chelsea prior to lockdown and had started to feature prominently once again before picking up his injury in midweek.

The Scotland Under-21 international now looks set to miss Chelsea's last five domestic matches of the season.

Chelsea leapfrogged Leicester into third place in midweek but will only be two clear of fifth if Manchester United beat Aston Villa on Thursday.

Frank Lampard's side still have Sheffield United, Liverpool and Wolves to play in their final four league matches, as well as an FA Cup semi-final against United.

Gilmour has made six appearances in his breakthrough campaign for Chelsea and impressively misplaced just 17 passes from 172 attempted in the Premier League.

Moreover, a return of 80.6 passes per 90 minutes for Gilmour ranks third of all Chelsea players in the league this term.
