Paris Saint-Germain president in Madrid for talks for new goalkeeper
Paris Saint-Germain Nasser Al Khelaifi has travelled to Madrid to step up the club’s pursuit of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, reports AS.
The Ligue 1 giants aren’t interested in reigning in their summer spending spree despite shelling out £193m on Barcelona super star Neymar already this month.
PSG are reportedly on the verge of beating Real Madrid to the signature of Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe and now Al Khelaifi wants to bring Oblak to the club.
Unai Emery’s side have been looking to sign a new goalkeeper all summer and Al Khelaifi is due to meet Oblak’s agent on Saturday.
Atletico are completely opposed to the deal, particularly as they are currently unable to register new players until January, but Oblak does have a €100m (£90.8m) release clause that would make Diego Simeone’s side powerless to keeping him.
The Slovenia international has established himself as one of the finest goalkeepers in Europe in recent years and it would be a hammer blow for Atletico to lose him. In fact, in the last three La Liga campaigns he has kept at least eight more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper (46).
