Feyenoord midfielder signs new deal

Feyenoord have announced former Aston Villa midfielder Karim El Ahmadi has signed a new 12-month contract extension keeping him at the club until the summer of 2019.

El Ahmadi has spent the last three years with the Dutch giants after re-signing from Villa in 2014 and is now vice-captain behind Dirk Kuyt at the club.

The 32-year-old has been a fixture in the Feyenoord side this season and his performances at the heart of midfield have been integral to their title challenge, as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side bid for the first league title since 1999.

Not only has El Ahmadi proven a steely midfielder but he has also contributed in attack, chipping in with a career-best five goals in the league. In fact, it’s as many goals as he had managed in his previous three league campaigns combined.

Furthermore, the Moroccan central midfielder is among the club’s highest rated players in the league this season (7.49) and only two players have won possession in the middle third more times than the Feyenoord No.8 (99).
