Liverpool ace set for new contract

Liverpool want to secure Roberto Firmino’s long-term future by offering the forward a new contract, reports Liverpool Echo.

Firmino’s current deal still has three years left to run but he has established himself as an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans at Anfield.

While the Brazilian is often criticised for not scoring enough, his work without the ball is often overlooked and a principle reason why Daniel Sturridge has fallen down the pecking order.

After fending off interest from Barcelona in Philippe Coutinho in the summer, Liverpool want to avoid a similar situation with Firmino in the future and are now looking to tie him down on a new long-term deal.

Since the start of last season, only Eden Hazard (40), Alexis Sanchez (33) and Kevin De Bruyne (32) have won possession in the attacking third more times than Firmino in the Premier League (31).
