Team News

Motherwell
Hearts
  • Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell named just one change after the Well narrowly lost 2-1 to Rangers at Hampden, before the Steelmen advanced into the Scottish League Cup quarter-final with a 1-0 win at home to Kilmarnock.
  • Liam Gordon joined Dan Casey and Shane Blaney continued in the Well's back three in front of Aston Oxborough in goal. Stephen O'Donnell started at right wing-back, with Steve Seddon starting on the left-hand side.
  • Davor Zdravkovski and Andy Halliday were chosen as the midfield duo to take on Killie. Teenage talents Lennon Miller and Ewan Wilson supported lone striker Zach Robinson, who replaced Apostolos Stamatelopoulos up front.
  • Steven Naismith made five changes as the Jambos crashed out of the Scottish League Cup as they lost 2-0 away to Championship side Falkirk, before a late goal saw Viktoria Plzen sneak past Hearts 1-0 in the Czech Republic on Thursday night.
  • Kye Rowles and Frankie Kent entered the Jambos' back five, to accompany Stephen Kingsley in the trio of centre halves behind Craig Gordon in goal. Craig Halkett made way from the Jambos' defence which was breached twice in Falkirk.
  • Cammy Devlin and Jorge Grant accompanied Malachi Boateng in the middle of the park. Yan Dhanda, Yutaro Oda and Blair Spittal made way as Lawrence Shankland took Liam Boyce's spot for their Europa League playoff first leg, supported by Kenneth Vargas in attack.

Prediction

  • Motherwell advanced into the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals, while visitors Hearts crashed out of the competition in their last domestic match.
  • The League Cup could prove a welcome distraction for the Well, who are still in search of their first league win of the season. Having been unable to sneak past Ross County in their league opener, they successfully did against Kilmarnock to book their place in the last eight. Killie looked fatigued having played in Europe in midweek, they'll hope that could be the case for Hearts here too.
  • The Jambos were left heartbroken after a late goal saw Viktoria Plzen take an advantage to Edinburgh, ahead of the second leg of the Europa League playoff at Tynecastle on Thursday night. Hearts' priorities are probably elsewhere, with their priority being the playoff, but the last two domestic performances have been way below par and they'd love to clinch their first league win here.
  • Both Motherwell and Hearts have suffered sluggish starts but the Steelmen snuck past Kilmarnock at Fir Park last weekend, so may fancy doing so against a potentially fatigued Hearts at Fir Park this weekend.
