Team News

St. Johnstone
Celtic
  • Interim St Johnstone manager Andy Kirk made two changes after Craig Levein's final match in charge of Saints where they lost 2-0 to Hibernian at Easter Road, before a crazy 3-3 draw in Dingwall away to Ross County last Saturday afternoon.
  • Jack Sanders missed the trip to Edinburgh through suspension, but returned to join Kyle Cameron and Lewis Neilson at the back, taking Aaron Essel's place. Andre Raymond and Drey Wright continued at left wing-back and right wing-back respectively.
  • Jason Holt, Sven Sprangler and Matt Smith remained the midfield three in the middle of the park. Nicky Clark - who bagged a brace - was joined in attack by Makenzie Kirk, who replaced the suspended Benji Kimpioka up front.
  • Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers made eight changes from the Celts side that smashed Slovan Bratislava 5-1 in the Champions League, before they advanced in the Scottish League Cup with a 5-2 victory over Falkirk in the quarter-finals.
  • Kasper Schmeichel was one of three players to keep his place in goal. A new back four of Álex Valle, Auston Trusty, Stephen Welsh and Anthony Ralston were trusted against the Bairns last weekend.
  • Club captain Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate were joined by Paulo Bernardo as opposed to Arne Engels. A new front three of Luis Palma and James Forrest supported Adam Idah in attack.

Prediction

  • St Johnstone and Celtic meet at McDiarmid Park, with both teams at different ends of the Scottish Premiership table following varied starts to the season.
  • Last weekend was perhaps the story of Saints' season already, even so early on, as they blew a two-goal lead with just minutes remaining against Ross County to depart Dingwall and return to Perth with just a point instead of all three. Four defeats from six games doesn't bode well at any time of the campaign but with the reigning champions coming to town, tests don't get any trickier.
  • Celtic were given a fright by Falkirk in the Scottish League Cup, before their second-half performance saw them batter the Bairns to progress into the semi-finals where they will face Aberdeen at Hampden. Yet to concede a Scottish Premiership goal this season, they take on St Johnstone full of confidence after also impressing in Europe and winning their first Champions League match.
  • Celtic have looked slick so far this season both domestically and, after winning their opening Champions League match for the first time ever, continentally so should have too much for Saints on Saturday.
