Team News

Motherwell
Ross County
  • Liam Kelly, Ricki Lamie and Blair Spittal have all left Motherwell for divisional rivals Rangers, Ross County and Hearts respectively. Theo Bair has left the Well after a season to sign for French Ligue 1 outfit AJ Auxerre.
  • Goalkeeper Krisztian Hegyi has signed on loan from West Ham. Right-back John Koutroumbis has joined the Steelmen from Perth Glory in his native Australia. Centre backs Liam Gordon and Kofi Balmer have arrived for free from St Johnstone and Crystal Palace respectively.
  • Andy Halliday has turned his temporary stay at Fir Park into a permanent one. Ross Callachan arrives from Ross County on a free transfer. Attacking options Zach Robinson, Filip Stuparevic and Apostolos Stamatelopoulos have joined from AFC Wimbledon, Slovenian side NK Domzale and Newcastle Jets in Australia respectively.
  • Midfielders Kyle Turner, Ross Callachan and Yan Dhanda all departed Dingwall for pastures new at Partick Thistle, Motherwell and Hearts respectively. Jordan Tillson left for Bath City and last season's top scorer Simon Murray joined Dundee.
  • Jack Hamilton has signed for the Staggies from recently relegated Livingston. Defensive duo Ricki Lamie and Akil Wright have joined from Motherwell and Stockport County respectively.
  • Aidan Denholm joins County on a season-long loan from Hearts, with fellow midfielder Charlie Telfer joining from Scottish Championship outfit Airdrieonians. Ronan Hale is the new star striker, signing from Irish side Cliftonville.

Prediction

  • Two of last season's bottom four meet in Motherwell, as the Steelmen and the Staggies go head-to-head on the opening day of the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season at Fir Park.
  • After guiding the Well to a ninth-placed finish in his first full season, Stuart Kettlewell will lead Motherwell in a second successive Scottish Premiership campaign. The major talking point is the loss of Theo Bair, who the Steelmen successfully converted into their star striker before the Canadian departed for France in a superb piece of business. Survival is the first and most important goal for Motherwell.
  • Don Cowie was appointed Ross County manager after seeing off Raith Rovers in the Premiership playoffs to preserve the Staggies' top-tier status. After finishing in the playoff place in back-to-back Scottish Premiership seasons, County will look to steer towards safety by finishing tenth or higher. It is imperative that they avoid any possibility of the dreaded drop at the expense of their opponents in the division below.
  • Motherwell limped to top spot in their League Cup group, but it was plain sailing for Ross County in comparison. With so many changes at either side, a share of the spoils might be in the offing.
