Team News

Hearts
Hibernian
  • Hearts boss Neil Critchley named four changes after the Jambos crashed out of the Europa Conference League after being held at home by Moldovan minnows CS Petrocub, before they bounced back with a 2-1 win against St Johnstone on Sunday.
  • Craig Gordon remained in goal for the Jambos. Adam Forrester was suspended for the Euro embarrassment, but replaced Craig Halkett who was only fit enough for the bench. Daniel Oyegoke, Kye Rowles and James Penrice continued in defence.
  • Malachi Boateng replaced Macaulay Tait in the middle of the park to accompany Cammy Devlin. Musa Drammeh and Blair Spittal came in for Yan Dhanda and Alan Forrest to join Lawrence Shankland, in support of James Wilson up front.
  • Hibernian manager David Gray named two changes to the Hibs team that came back from behind to beat Ross County 3-1 at Easter Road, as they repeated the feat with an impressive win against Aberdeen by the same scoreline on Saturday.
  • Goalkeeper Jordan Smith kept his place between the sticks at Pittodrie. Jack Iredale, Rocky Bushiri and Warren O'Hora continued in the Hibees' backline. Chris Cadden remained at right wing-back, as his brother Nicky was on the left flank.
  • Club captain Joe Newell and Nectarios Traintis were chosen in midfield once again. Junior Hoilett and Dwight Gayle made way for Josh Campbell to support Martin Boyle, who accompanied Elie Youan in the Hibs attack.

Prediction

  • Two points and two places separate tenth-placed Hearts and Hibs in eighth ahead of the second Edinburgh derby in the Scottish Premiership this season.
  • Heart of Midlothian recovered from their continental capitulation against Moldovan minnows CS Petrocub, with just their fourth victory of the Scottish Premiership season as they clinched a second win against St Johnstone of the campaign. Hearts haven't lost at home to their city rivals since a 0-2 defeat on Boxing Day 2019, unbeaten in six Edinburgh derbies in Gorgie since but winning just two.
  • Hibernian head across Edinburgh full of confidence after clinching three points at Pittodrie against Aberdeen and winning back-to-back Scottish Premiership matches for the first time since December 2023, where they won three on the spin. The Hibees haven't won an Edinburgh derby since a sole goal success last April, drawing four of the five matches since victory in Leith the season before last.
  • Four of the last five Edinburgh derbies have ended in draws so, with just two points separating the two teams, another share of the spoils wouldn't be particularly surprising on Boxing Day.
