Team News

Hibernian
Rangers
  • Hibernian manager David Gray named a sole change to the Hibs team that clinched a sole goal success over Kilmarnock at Easter Road, before they drew 1-1 with St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Thursday afternoon.
  • Goalkeeper Jordan Smith kept his place between the sticks. Jack Iredale, Rocky Bushiri and Lewis Miller made up the Hibees' backline. Chris Cadden remained at right wing-back, as his brother Nicky was on the left flank.
  • Nectarios Traintis was chosen in midfield once again, joined by Kwon Hyeok-Kyu as club captain Joe Newell was injured. Josh Campbell supported Martin Boyle and Junior Hoilett in the Hibs attack, with super sub Dwight Gayle netting their equaliser.
  • Rangers manager Philippe Clement made six changes after the Gers' disappointing 2-2 draw with Motherwell at Fir Park, before an emphatic derby day display saw them beat Celtic 3-0 at Ibrox to kick off 2025 in style.
  • Liam Kelly took Jack Butland's place between the sticks for the Old Firm. Jefte entered the Gers defence to join Ridvan Yilmaz, Robin Propper and Dujon Sterling in club captain James Tavernier's absence.
  • Mohamed Diomande and Nico Raskin continued in midfield. Oscar Cortes, Kieran Dowell, Danilo and Cyriel Dessers made way for an entirely new forward line of Ianis Hagi, Nedim Bajrami and Vaclav Cerny supporting lone striker Hamza Igamane.

Prediction

  • Both Hibernian and Rangers enjoyed derby day delight in the Scottish Premiership fixtures that took place over the festive period.
  • Hibernian missed out on the chance to record three successive victories over St Johnstone in the top flight for the first time since September 2009, after a disappointing draw in Perth on Thursday afternoon. The Hibees are winless in their opening league game of a calendar year since a 2-1 win over Hamilton Accies started 2020, but recent form has seen them ascend up the league table.
  • Rangers had enjoyed just one victory in 14 meetings (also by a 3-0 scoreline in May 2023) with bitter rivals Celtic in all competitions, losing nine, before their midweek mauling of the Hoops at Ibrox. The Gers cut the gap at the top of the table to 11 points, halfway through the season, so still have a lot of work to do but their derby day demons have been laid to rest for the meantime.
  • Hibs haven't beaten Rangers since November 2021 in the League Cup semi-final, so Easter Road could continue to be a happy hunting ground for the Gers this weekend.
