Manchester United value sought-after goalkeeper at £6.5m

Manchester United are willing to sell Sam Johnstone this summer but will demand £6.5m for the goalkeeper, claims The Sun.

Johnstone is currently enjoying a thoroughly successful loan spell at Aston Villa and his performances have already attracted Premier League interest.

United manager Jose Mourinho rates compatriot Joel Pereira very highly and the 21-year-old is expected to be the club's third-choice goalkeeper going forward.

Villa will certainly be interested in re-signing Johnstone on a permanent basis but their hopes may hinge on what league they are in next season.

Steve Bruce’s side are currently third in the Championship and four points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

Unless Cardiff’s tremendous run of form comes to a startling halt, Villa’s look destined to finish in the play-offs, where they hold a nine-point cushion on seventh place Bristol City.

Only three Championship goalkeepers have kept more clean sheets than Johnstone (15) this season, while only Fulham’s Marcus Bettinelli (80.9%) has a better save success rate than the former England Under-20 international (78.5%).
